The Requirements

The requirements are as follows:

The scholarships are open to poor, talented and deserving students whose socio-economic status do not exceed the set values of certain indicators, e.g. family gross income, electric consumption, etc.

In addition, the applicant must:

Belong to the upper 5% of the high school graduating class;

Be a natural-born Filipino citizen;

Be in good health;

Be of good moral character;

Be a resident of the municipality in the last (4) years; and

Be a qualifier of the S&T Scholarship Examination.

* The Philippine Education Placement Test (PEPT) passers with an average of 85% and above as certified by the NETRC may apply.

The following are not qualified to apply:

Those who have earned units in any post-secondary/undergraduate course.

Those who have taken any DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination.

Those who have applied for immigrant/resident status in the USA or any other country.

Items to be Submitted:

DOST-SEI Information Sheet (using Form A);

Household Profile (Form B)

Health Certificate from a licensed physician (Form C);

Certification of Good Moral Character from guidance counselor/principal (Form D);

Certification from the high school principal on the following (Form E):

That the applicant belongs to the upper 5% of the graduating class

Total number of candidates for graduation

Statement of applicant that he/she has not taken any undergraduate units or post secondary course (Form F);

Statement of parent that applicant has no pending application for immigrant/resident status in the USA or any other country (Form G);

Certification of residency from barangay captain (Form H);

Two recent photographs (1"x1"), one to be attached to the DOST-SEI Information Sheet and the other to the Notice of Admission;

Photocopy of Birth Certificate.

The Responsibility

For every privilege comes responsibilities. Here are the obligations of a DOST-SEI RA 7687 scholars.

1. An AWARDEE shall enroll at Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recognized
programs and institutions with full registration status under TESDA. He/She should
pass the qualifying examination for admission by the university where he/she plans
to enroll.
2. An AWARDEE shall maintain the grade requirement of the scholarship.
3. An AWARDEE shall comply with the terms of the scholarship agreement to be entered
into and between himself/herself, parents or legal guardian and the DOST-SEI.
4.Upon completion of his/her course, an AWARDEE shall serve in the country preferably
in his/her home region on full time basis along his/her field of training for a minimum
period equivalent to the length of time he/she enjoyed this scholarship.

The Benefits

Being a scholar really rocks, especially being a Department of Science and Technology, Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). The benefits are as follows:

For RA 7687 scholars:

Tuition and other school fees not to exceed Php 4,500/semester/term.
Allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies at Php 3,000/academic year.
Outright grant for prescribed Military Science/Physical Education uniform of Php 500.00 for first semester, first year only.
Free transportation for one economy-class round trip fare between permanent residence and place of study on reimbursement basis (for those studying outside of their home province).
Monthly living allowance for a 10-11 month duration:
- For those who will pursue Physics, Physics Teaching Courses, a monthly living allowance of Php 4,000; and,
- For those who will pursue other DOST priority courses, a monthly living allowance of Php 3,000.00.
Group health and accident insurance;
Additional privileges during summer, if required in the curriculum such as:
- Monthly living allowance during the required period;
- Tuition and other school fees not to exceed Php 1,500;
- Actual purchase of textbooks and essential school supplies not to exceed Php 500.00 (official receipts required).
